"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation.

You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

And the family welcomed another

grandbaby on November 9, 2017!

This year I began with every intention of blogging daily and perhaps a few times a day.  Then life happened.

And grandbabies...2 this year.

And a campaign happened...Bill is running for county Sheriff.

And a situation with one of the grands that needed nanny Gigi(me).

Therefore the blog has been the last thing on the burner.

But I am working to rejoin the blogging world~until then, here's the newest model:Image may contain: 1 person, beard and indoor

September and we

celebrated our anniversary.  Bill's mom passed away on our anniversary and we changed plans.  Last Sunday, we drove up to the mountains and had a simple anniversary lunch, dance and getaway.  It has been needed as the weeks before Bill's mom passed and since have been emotionally filled.  Quick prayer request for Bill's dad, he is having some pretty serious health concerns, so if you have prayer time, we would love prayers for him.

Here are the photos from our 29th Anniversary...

We had a picnic in the mountains.

Very humble, yet the company was amazing.
We danced for a bit and to take a pic with our height differences
was hard. My attempts were only of Bill's shirt, his~ he had to lean!

Then for a bit of time where we both could just take a breath and not think
about the worries down the mountain, Bill read for a bit.
and I painted.

Not quite done but here is what it is looking like.

More updates and postings coming.  No new grands yet, although one is due sooooon and the other in two months.  We are very excited.

Thanks for the emails and such and life happens.

Thursday Two

I haven't been taking many photos lately but I do have a few.
Here's G1 as King for a Day!
Here is the only chickie that survived 2017 season.  As you can tell momma is a bantam(well she is adopted momma), and the other is a Brahma . We had struggles because the other chickens dug under the brooder and when a chick would fall in the hole they had a snack.  Sorry, it is a window to the reality of farm life.  But this little goober is doing great and growing bigger each day. I think I will name the wee one Solo.

That's it for Thursday Two.
Bill and I are heading to the funeral this weekend and will be out for a few days.
Thanks for visiting the Farm today.

Rest in Peace

Bill's mom passed away on the 27th of August. I met Silvina 29 years ago on the 27th of August when she came in when I was putting my wedding dress on.  Rest in peace Silvina...

Surprise for Bill

Third graduated from Basic/AIT the other day.  Bill believed he would arrive home on Saturday. We surprised Bill and he came home on Friday!

Not going to lie...it is shaky because I was crying.

With the G2...and bad photo means Jen was still crying!

Can't always surprise Bill but this was a good one!

And he said, Let me tell you a secret about a father's love,
A secret that my daddy said was just between us.
He said, Daddies don't just love their children every now and then.
It's a love without end, amen, it's a love without end, amen.

Hmm...here's a few photos to play catch up!

We have been a wee bit busy off the farm lately!
We entered a float in the Otero County Fair and Rodeo Parade~as well as the campaign truck.  Our float was part of the theme which this year was Tales of the West.  The above photo has Team Garza that helped with this parade...plus many that helped behind the scenes!
Here are the trucks in the parade!

The campaign truck. We handed out a thousand water bottles with Vote Bill Garza on the label!
In New Mexico~I am sure that water is a plus no matter the label :)!

Then here is what I made for the float. It told our story. Tales of the West...Present Day.
A young woman headed west-Ohio---West
Met a young man-Hitched 1988
They had 4 children
Then headed to New Mexico
And their tale is still being written~and we had an arrow that pointed to the campaign truck.
It was great fun!

By the way~that is little G, a friend of the family riding his mini four wheeler. His family walked with all of us and handed out Otter Pops for any and all that wanted them.

Here is the Republican Booth at the Otero County Fair.

Here is part of the Garza for Sheriff booth.  It is a reflection of how we life.  No need to spend donations on a booth for four days. We instead used parts of the farm here. The sign on the planks is from an old chicken coop~yep! The shelf is a shoe shelf and the table is our rose table on the front porch.  These lovely young women are the daughters of Bill's choice for undersheriff.

Because I think life is more than pushing politics we had an impromptu, completely unscientific poll each day of the fair.  The questions were: Smothered or dry(as burritos),  corn or flour (tortillas), green or red (chile) and the final one was cheesecake or pumpkin pie(representing Bill's and my fav desserts!). The winners were: smothered, flour, green, and cheesecake!  I owe Bill cheesecake as he won! We had over a thousand votes cast and it was so fun to hear people responding and what conditions they added!!

One side of the booth...with homespun barbed wire!

The other side of the booth. Both Bill and his undersheriff Geraldine Martinez are veterans.

Closeup of the sign.  I did buy the letters at Hobby Lobby~on 50% price a few months ago!

Just a few pics of people at the Fair.
We had signs that people could hold and many(over 300) had their
photos taken with Bill!

Some of the volunteers that make up the fire department/ems in Otero County.

Bill also visited with many others at their booths and participated with them.

Bill talked with many citizens of the county and several people from Germany and Mexico.

Each and every person was greeted by Bill and he met them at their levels! Bill gave this wee one a wristband and she then took off her red wristband and gave it to Bill. She was so sweet. (Bill gave her momma the red wristband back-but oh how sweet)!

And here is Bill Garza candidate for Sheriff and Geraldine Martinez his Undersheriff.

It's All Perspective!

I had the great opportunity to speak with a blogity friend from Canada last night.  Oh my, I was so happy to finally hear her voice and to be honest listen for the infamous Canadian accent.  I was not disappointed and must tell you that my northern BFF and her honey wanted to hear my accent!  Crazy that I forgot that perhaps I may have an accent. Hmm...I'm a fast talker so maybe my accent was missed~but no. I was told I have some sort of an accent, but it mostly has to do with me being short (Kidding!)

To those that wonder, I really have no idea what my accent is aside from a whole lot of mixed up, as I was born in the south, raised in the mid-west, lived on the west coast, and now live in the southwest!

Perspective is important though, as we all were anticipating accents and none of us was disappointed!

Now for the much awaited almost always added random photo or two that connect nothing with the post nor the other photos~please enjoy as this is my brain on blogger!

My Bill.
My everything.

Above my stove.
Yes, those are brooder lights from the chicken coop,
well one was new and one I super scrubbed.
Thank you Bill for letting me do things that
aren't always conventional but always are penny pinching.

And an oldie but a goodie. These were our Navajo Churro sheep.
We now have sheep that have no wool.  Crazy but true.
And the current flock are named pretty girlie names as we do not
have a ram anymore.  Bill doesn't care as he calls them the girls.

Chicken Little

The best broody hen we have ever had is this bantam.
She has been sitting on a small nest of five eggs.
The other day they began to hatch!!

The really cute thing about this is that I am certain that the chickie is a Brahma and to be mothered by a teeny hen is a sight to see.

Now to my cheesy time management.  When I am sitting in the family room at the end of the day I draw/doodle/paint. Here is a simple doodle to add to the All Because files:

Hey Fred Sharon

and the girls~  we haven't heard from you and have been praying you are all well.  Please feel free to leave us a comment letting us know how you are doing!

Bill and Jen

Thank you for your Prayers

We have needed them and they have been effective. Since a week ago Saturday I have been to the ER/Labor and Delivery and the OB/GYN(3x) with one of my pregnant daughters.  The bacterial infection that they have been treating for a few weeks seems to finally have been beaten!!! My on-line footprint has been a bit scarce as these past weeks have been an emotional roller coaster for us.

The good news is that baby and mommy are doing fine.

Stay-tuned to some photo postings sharing some other things that have happened over the past week.

Once again it is the

Have a lovely weekend and remember that a day of rest was given to us by God, so rest in Him and regroup so you can work refreshed again.

Six days thou shalt labor and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, an all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. Exodus 20:9-11

And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath Mark 2:27

The past several weeks have

been a bit rough for people close to Bill and I.  My precious Fourth ended up with an infection that left her with a temperature for several days following.  One of my son's mother-in-laws had a massive heart attack last Thursday.

Both of these health scares kept me in prayer and away from home for several days and nights.

My daughter is doing well now.

The mother of one of my precious daughters(in-law) is also doing well, although she has a slow, steady course for recovery.

It is hard in the moment to stop and ask for prayers.  In fact, it is hard when one has a moment to think to share the emotions as it may be too raw.  What I have reminded myself during these past weeks is something simple.  If you feel pressed to pray for someone, stop and pray for them.  You need not know the reasons why.

Thanks to those that have been praying: now I am adding specific prayer requests, one for my Fourth and one for a woman that I share a grandchild with.

County Fair Parade

The theme of the Otero County Parade is Tales of the West. Once again we will be entering a parade for the campaign. Since I love the theme, I am also going to add a float.

It sounds crazy but perhaps I have been missing out by never participating in parades other than watching. Well, let me put myself in check. A campaign enters a parade to gain name recognition. We gave away water~which I had never seen before~with the campaign logo because it was over 100F by the end of the parade. I wanted to give those that came to the parade something useful as well as something that gives information.

I recognize that signs on a vehicle do not make me a skilled float contender but it definitely triggered my brain with many ideas for upcoming parades. I love this year's theme and have completely planned our float. I cannot share too much aside from the fact that a straw bale or two are part of the float.

Stay tuned as I am certain I will be posting a few pics down the road.

Now for the cuteness photo:

Tuesday Thoughts

I think I am going to write this as a bullet post to be different this Tuesday.
  • I have a great bloggity friend.  Seriously.  We have never met but from the beginning of my blogging I have known him.  I owe him an email but am composing it in my head and so I will post here first.  Glenn, your post humbled both Bill and I.  I am rarely at a loss for words.  In fact, some people have called me a fast talker~lol.  But this time, I am slow to speak, and deeply moved by your post.  Please stay tuned.
  • I had lovely hanging flower baskets  off the front porch.  That is until a pigeon began to nest there.  One thing I have learned (of literally thousands of things), since moving to the farm, is that we live here with the critters.  Some we have raised here, others dwell here because it is their home.  Perhaps the water troughs about the property brought them here, or the feed tossed to the critters, or maybe, just maybe they have been here forever.  It is not for me to disrupt their lives if I can help it.  For those that think I am a softie or whatnot, you are right. I believe that the critters that live within the borders of the Double Nickel are under Bill and I and deserve the best most respectful treatment possible.  For the record~even the snakes deserve this which is why if they do not breach the areas that are animal/people places on the farm, they are free to be. Here is a post that shares the cold hard truth about snakes~and me.  By the way, I am going to post a separate post about the little pigeon chick that hatched, as I thought he was a goner with the dogs, but he is back!!
  • I hate divorce.  It is not just the couple that endure a divorce but the family, friends and children as well. Another thing I absolutely cannot stand is the peers of those divorcing.  They champion the one going through the divorce building up what a loser the spouse was, and how much better things will be now that they are apart. I find a better idea is for those going through a divorce to pick people older than themselves as mentors to either walk them through the divorce or walk the couple through counseling.  I am not suggesting that one should remain in an abusive marriage, but our friends often tell us what we already believe or what we want to hear. The friends are also not in the home with the children when the children are dealing with the loss of the family. Perhaps another day I will post completely on divorce but I will use God's Word not my own opinion.
  • The county fair is right around the corner.  I am slowly but surely putting together my entries~as I am a county fair junkie.  I am also preparing for two things we have never done.  We are going to have a booth at the fair this year, as well as a float in the parade.  We also will have a campaign truck once again, but the float~well this is totally new.  I have my drawings of how I want it to look. I can't wait to build it! Okay this is for Bill~what I mean, is I can't wait for you to build it :)!!
  • I have been on a reading binge. Boy oh boy I have been reading so much. I have stacks of books by my bed.  I think when I close the last one from this new group of thrift store book finds I will take a break!
  • Definitely not my deepest post on deep thoughts but the post is about things I have had thoughts on. Seems like I have more, but to be honest I am thinking about other things and need to get moving on them! Have a great day and here is a bonus photo to wrap up the post today:
An oldie but a goodie.

Simple Life

The wreath that is by the front door is made up of a pack of clothespins, some buttons and the floral wreath thingie you can buy at Wal*mart for under $3.00.  The burlap bow is repurposed from another project.

I painted the clothespins, then glued on the buttons and then placed the pins around the wreath.  I attached a simple wire holder saved from a bread bag.

This ends today's simple life window!

Sunday Morning on the Farm

I decided to walk about and snap some photos to share a window to my world this morning.
Chickies are scratching under this tree.

The apple trees are almost too weighed down with all the fruit.

Wood split and ready to be stacked for winter.

Chickies in the back yard and out of the backyard!

My mountain as the sun began to peek over~

How ewe doin'?

Mr. Rooster and one of his girls.

The sun made it over the mountains!

The best fly traps ever...very stinky but very effective. This one
is loaded down and geeerosss but better to have this than the flies buzzing about.

The other rooster-Brigham and some of his wives.

My flip flip with a reminder why flip flops aren't the best shoe to
wear on the farm.

And my mint by the door.
That is a quick peek to some of the things I see if I am outside walking about the farm.
