"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation.

You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

What to do

with those old t-shirts?  You could make a rug:

This is my first attempt and it will be a shower rug. Now that I have the feel for the jumbo large crochet hook, and working with t-shirt material, I plan on making more color organized rugs.

It is easy if you can crochet.

Cut t-shirts up into 1/2 inch strips of material connect together.

In the continuing theme of the farm ~nothing goes to waste.  Stay tuned for a few more t-shirt rugs as they take so little time to make.

I know you will stop by the blog today so I thought I would write you a note. Yep~for the world to see.  As I have pondered the years we have had together, I wonder how it could be 25 years, as it seems like yesterday when we met.

I knew the moment I saw you that I was going to be your wife.
I never considered any other possibility.
I am stubborn that way.

I cannot imagine a day without you~even if we are busy doing separate projects, I must know you are near.
I never realized before I was married how incomplete I was,
Until I met you.

We never set out to be anything more than us.
Yet, in that simplicity, we became more.
And because of that we will live beyond our years.

All because...two people...fell...in love.

My heart races minutes before you arrive home.
My vanity requires a check in the mirror.
All because I only care how I look...for you.

We have traveled near and far.
And set up life in places I could have never dreamed of.
All because~whither thou goest.

Oft times words aren't needed.
A look says a thousand words.
All because.

You have made my life complete...if I can borrow from a Kenny Rogers song.
They shall be one...if I can borrow from Genesis.
All because.

All because...two people...fell...in love.

To my sweetest Bill, thank you for the best years of my life 1988  1989  1990  1991  1992  1993  1994  1995  1996  1997  1998  1999  2000  2001  2002  2003  2004  2005  2006  2007  2008  2009  2010  2011  2012  2013...

ps~I love you forever and a day

Pretty Ironic

that a ten year old boy was charged with brandishing a weapon at an elementary in Virginia on Tuesday.   I am most certainly NOT making light of the seriousness of a ten year old brandishing a weapon even if it was a toy gun.

He was also suspended from school, and Alexandria City Public Schools Superintendent Morton Sherman said further action is being considered, including expulsion. ( source)

Thank the heavens above that the appropriate response is being taken by the superintendent!?!?

What I find ironic is that the elementary school that this brandishing occurred is none other than the Douglas MacArthur elementary school.

Douglas MacArthur is the name of the school????

Douglas MacArthur?

Graduate of West Point in 1903.

Occupied Veracruz with troops in 1914.

Served as Divisional Commander in WWI

Was superintendent at West Point.

Served in WW11 as general of army, then commander of all US forces in the Pacific

In 1950 MacArthur was selected to command the UN forces in Korea.  (source of all MacArthur points)

Irony at its finest I suppose.  I mean the elementary is named after a man who not only went to a military academy, he also was later its superintendent.   Go to the West Point link here, you can't miss the weapons in the slide show...
He served in all the 20th century wars that occurred during his lifetime...even WW11 when he was in his 60's.

He most definitely saw the destruction of life through weapons, yet continued on in his career.

And a sweet, simple house of learning is burdened with the name of a battle proven soldier.    How dare they?  I think we must start an investigation on the school board, the superintendent, the staff, and the community.  What on earth were they thinking?

To the parents of the ten year old, as well to all of those that have children in our public schools...NOW is the time to remove your children from public education.  Your removal of the child takes away their bread and butter...

options are vast thanks to the internet.

On the Table

This project will be for my last granny quilt for a while.

I need to pick up the yarn to finish each block and to connect them.
Then I will begin something for my cutie.
Bill has asked me to make another crocheted blanket for him.

The last one I made for Bill was in 2003 and it was for our bed, so I think
it is time.

Something to think about

Where I live even the cattle are given crossing signs.
Life is far more slow paced,
and you can take a moment and
smell the flowers, or my case
smell the cactus.

Take time today to do something not because
your hustle bustle life requires it.  Time continues
to pass and perhaps this is the moment to say what
you have always wanted to say to a loved one.

Now is the time to begin something you always
wanted to begin.  Now is the time to make
life truly worth living.

I can send you a book that will help you on
this journey.  Seems like a waste not to take a
moment and see what life is about . I mean the majority of
you are living looking to the dollar, waiting for
the dollar, paying someone else your dollar
or even dreaming of how to have more dollars
in your wallet.

This Book will grant some perspective and if you choose

Hangin' Around

We went to El Paso yesterday and stopped at Costco.  I found a set of kitchen towels that were low cost and perfect for a project I had in mind.  I bought them and began.

I remember my mom had several  towels in the kitchen that buttoned over the drawer handles.  As we are slowly working on the kitchen, I realized I have drawers in the kitchen that this style towel can hook onto.   I began thinking of how to make these since I do not understand patterns etc for crocheting, and came up with two different but workable towels.
Here is one of them.  This was my second attempt and I
actually like this one best.

This is the first one I made.  I tried to make it like I
remember from years ago.  By the second towel
I realized I would lift the concept of the towel, but make
it my own, because of my lack of skill.

If you ever visit the farm, I am certain you will see some of these
style towels hangin' around, now that I have figured out how to
make them.
