"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation.

You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."
Dr. Adrian Rogers 1931-2005

In Times Like These

"You've come a long way, baby," was the campaign slogan of Virginia Slims linking smoking "to women's freedom, emancipation, and empowerment."

With the link above I have a few thoughts~

The Titanic sunk almost exactly 100 years ago.

A disproportionate number of men died due to the women and children first protocol that was enforced by the ship's crew.Of a total of 2,201 people aboard Titanic only 711, less than a third, survived and 1,514 perished.Overall, only 20 percent of the men survived, compared to nearly 75 percent of the women. The Costa Concordia ran aground and tipped to its side this week.

Survivors have told how people were screaming and women and children were not given priority.

Fathers desperate to be with their families ignored the order that women and children should go first. There was even fighting between some passengers who tried to get on lifeboats.(source)

Now it seems we have come a long way, haven't we baby? I think those on the cruise should be very thankful that the ship was not too far out to sea as the Titanic was, or things may have turned out very differently.
