"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation.

You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

In Case

I have written many times about preparing for a crisis.  I have shared tips that may help one as well as how my family has been able to thrive when we were thrust into our very own crisis.  One need not have the devastation that Sandy has scattered to be in a crisis.

For those of us not dealing with the aftermath of Sandy, now is the time to act.  First and foremost in the measure of assisting our fellow man.  Can you donate to an organization that is helping those on the east coast?  Perhaps your area is putting together a food and clothing drive-and you can donate locally for them.   Can you donate to your local church food pantry or community kitchen?   We have such a national emergency at our front that we may overlook those at home.  Can you donate blood?  Blood is always needed.

Why begin writing about preparation with the suggestion of donating to help others?  It is by sheer happenstance that the storm, earthquake, hurricane, tornado, flash flood did not impact me, but I could be next.  This is not the time to harp about politics, but the time to act.  Give...

As to preparing, prepare.  Not for the ridiculous zombie apocalypse~but for real situations that will spiral your lives out of control if you are not prepared.  Of course the very nature of a crisis may cause confusion, chaos, and crazy emotions but preparation will help you endure.

I strongly suggest that you prepare your family in case things happen in your neck of the woods.  I suggest you have a plan on where to go if you need to flee with an emergency kit in the car and also at the bare minimum one months worth of food storage.  This post (Prudent Storage) has a list at the bottom to give you an idea of foods to have on hand.  Please have storage of medications that you need, toiletries that include any feminine products needed, as well as enough supplies if you have a baby or small child. It is crazy to think that help can arrive quickly in situations such as Sandy-so prepare to adapt while waiting.  It isn't a crisis if you have enough food, water, and your shelter is intact.

Here are so posts I have written on preparation.

Oh and one more thing~if you would like to have a Bible that will give you something to read during a crisis, please click here and one will be sent to you.
