"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation.

You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

Saturday on the Farm

Saturdays on the farm are busy with the chores first and foremost. We muck out the pens, and assess the needs for the following week. I also fine tune clean any and all areas that may have been overlooked on the daily house and kitchen chores. The men in the family have been working on our tire gardens. We are using the tires in a dual purpose mode. I have mentioned that I love dual purpose items. We are going to make a tire wall staggered/raised gardens. We learned last year that garden beds on the ground was a code for EVERY rabbit in the southern part of New Mexico to come with their bibs on as dinner was served. So we researched several styles of gardening, and then decided to go with one that is cost effective and result effective. We have found many many bloggers that have had successful tire gardens, plus the one we saw in Las Cruces, New Mexico.(oh and the tires are F*R*E*E)

I also try and get laundry caught up. As the weather has changed and the days are much shorter laundry has become a well planned event to get the load up on the clothesline and off in the eve before the chill of the night makes them damp again. Today I was able to get two loads up and down and the third and final load will hang until midday tomorrow.(kind of hum drum to those who have working appliances for these simple needs...)

Which takes me to my thoughts for this post. When I began this life, everything was new, and difficult. Now I notice how I process things as I go to find the most logical common sense approach. As I was hanging clothes on the line, listening to the chickens clucking around me, I thought about the incredible peace that this life has brought me. I was able to think of each member of the family as I hung up an article of clothing that belonged to them. When I put the cloth napkins up, I realized that this was the first thing I made to prepare me for this journey. Funny I set a table up in the back yard for this work, and the chickens find me and my activities as the high point of their day!!

Perhaps all the gizmo's that have been made to make our lives better~ really are to remove energy that keeps us physically and mentally fit, so that we can fill the time with activities that dull the mind, such as TV, computers, games and the likes. Make no mistake I am grateful for technology, and without the advances in medicine, I would have died delivering my first child. But often gadgets and gizmo's open up time for things that aren't really best for us.

As I close my thoughts for the day, I will share what I made for our dessert...apple pie(from the apples we picked and canned). I love apple pie in a bowl with milk and sugar on it. Anyone out there eat apple pie this way? I wonder if this is something from my mother's family( and they were German). I am the only one in my house that will eat it this way. The rest of the gang choose to eat their pie with ice cream.
