"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation.

You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."
Dr. Adrian Rogers 1931-2005

2014 County Fair

Another Fair is now on the memory books.  Since we moved to the farm, the county fair has become the place to share our learned skills and projects.  The transition hasn't been easy to become true country folk not only in address but in spirit as well.

When we moved to the farm, I considered home baked bread frozen loaves from Schwan's. Over the years, I have really come to understand the process of bread making and love it.  What first seemed a hardship has turned into an amazing adventure.

For those of you that have never been to a county fair or entered any items, I confess I hadn't either until 2008.  I was embarrassed that I was so pleased with the awards and over the years, I am still somewhat embarrassed but I do appreciate that things I make are seen beyond my humble home.

As to the county fair...it is a lovely thing.  I enjoy so many parts of the fair but say that the food makes me long for the next fair.  Oh fair food is greasy and full of terrible calories but dang is it ever delicious.
A must for me every year is ribbon fries.

I love the Ferris wheel to and snapped this photo from under the
porch of one of the buildings as it began to rain.

Not the best of photos, but here is part of the Home Ec barn.
If you click on the image you can see the felt/bead menorah
in the glass display case on the left side.

I love the rodeo as well.  It rained a good deal yesterday and we ended
up looking for parking as some of the riders were walking their horses
to the arena.

Here are the ribbons for the farm for 2014.
I am super excited that I received a Grand Champion ribbon
in baked goods, but I must be completely honest and share
that entries overall were down a good deal.
