"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation.

You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."
Dr. Adrian Rogers 1931-2005

Last post of the year...I think

My year in review is pretty simple.

All of my children have graduated from McBenning High.

Oldest son was in Afghanistan and came home safely. I thank God that I was able to see him once again and have him stationed right next door(almost) to the farm.

Second son continued in his training as fireman, and expanded training to included first responder and working on EMT. He can drive all the bright red firetrucks as well as the ambulance. He was on several wildfire crews and looks forward to next summer. I pray for no fires even if it means no work for him...He also begins as a reserve officer in a few weeks.

Third son worked so hard saving for his first vehicle then switched jobs to work in the ER all the while expanding his education thanks to a program offered at the hospital. He loves his job and moved closer to work as the realities of paying for his gas kicked in. He also made me a grandmother for the first time~~kidding, he got a cute puppy he has named Athena. Photos will follow, but keep in mind all American mutt and you already know what she looks like!

Lovely daughter graduated and began a full-time summer job saving as much as she can. She also took a trip back east and met many of my siblings and cousins for the first time. She is taking online courses and dreams of having her own photo studio. I see this coming to fruition as she is very goal oriented.

Bill had major surgery in October and is recovering quite well. He is still able to take the breath away of one short farmer's wife with his smile. With his partner in crime he plans on making the farm more productive in vegetation implementing some dry farming and water preservation skills learned over the years. Only in the mirror can I see the years pass, as when we are together it is as if we are back in 1988.

For me, let's see. My mother died this year. I am without words to how I feel and can only say that His grace is sufficient for me. I am thankful once again to be the mother of my children. It is a delight to see the kids move on to their own lives and seek out their dreams. I am smiling because my dreams led me directly into the life I am living matched up with a man I had only known 2 days. Yes, it has been worth it. I never realized when Bill told me he would give me the world that he meant it. I cannot believe we have lived in so many places and seen so many things. Only thing I wish we could have filmed that we didn't would have been that traffic circle in France with the three boys in the back seat! That makes me laugh aloud every time I think about it. I am thankful every day for my husband, my children, and my simple life on the farm. I would not have changed one day, one hour, one moment that brought us to this point.

My blogging has taken me around the world and I have met many people that I would most likely never have met. Today I want to make sure I thank everyone that reads the Double Nickel Farm and leaves comments here or in the email. We are very thankful and appreciate the support the kind words and prayer sent our way.

May 2012 be a year we all seek Truth, find Hope, and have Peace...all available through Jesus Christ.

Happy New Year from
The Double Nickel Farm!

This is an outtake from December 31, 2009 being shared for the first time~ as it is hard to orchestrate an annual photo and the patience of the natives is often pushed to overload...As a result this is what happens!! From left to right Third, Fourth, First, and Second.
