"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation.

You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."
Dr. Adrian Rogers 1931-2005

Friday Farm Update

It has been a while since I have updated what is happening on the farm, so here goes:

Population of farm
1 farmer
1 farmer's wife
3 amazing teens
1(handsome soldier)

6 Black Spanish Turkeys
1 Midget white turkey

hundreds of thousands of chickens
6 cutie pie Heinz 57 chicks residing in the family room
4 ducks
2 geese

10 Navajo Churro Sheep
11 La Mancha mix goats

oh and Bill bought me a new deep freeze...well kind of. I named it Deep Freeze as we have our cow that we are fattening up!

80 million black and white cats that skulk around the edges of the perimeter of the property. When farmer and gang are sneaky enough Cat Roundup occurs and population is reduced. Bob Barker would have had his head spin and fall off here, as spay and neuter pets not an option for the previous and current residents of the canyon I live in!

The garden is coming into focus with the lovely perimeter fence nearly complete. Tire garden containers taking on some festive colors and actually is going to have space to set up a few chairs and the picnic table in for the family to rest and enjoy the beauty of the mountains.

The majority of sheep and goats have new *digs* and I am almost finished painting the pallet fences. I know I said I probably would not paint the fences, but someone either didn't like the color of paint made for them at Walmart, or the color was a blooper-but either way the color inspired me...and so fence painting I am!

Back porch nearly complete. Incredible design by farmer and his vision is so great. Dual purpose for sure as it reduces the amount of heat inside.

Front porch nearly complete. This project was a bit my idea, and Second has been bringing it into focus.

The year of the Tree is well under way...we have five trees on the property! We planted so far 2 McIntosh Apple trees, 2 apricot trees, and 1 willow tree. This means that we have 6 trees on the farm(and zillions of Mesquite trees). Amazing what an emotional boost a few trees do to the family, and the green vibrant leaves are a cheerful site in the desert tones of the property!

Update complete as much as I can remember...projects are always underway here as older fixer upper translates into steady work for years to come. I must thank Craigs*list and the local on line yard sales as we have been able to supply project needs so easily!
