"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation.

You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

Happy Thanksgiving from the Double Nickel Farm!

May you have many special memories today with your friends and family.  Five years ago I celebrated my first Thanksgiving without my mother.  Five years later five amazing people have joined the Double Nickel Farm family.  What seems hard to overcome is softened with time, love, and an openness for others.

To my husband, sons, daughters-in-law, daughter, and grandsons~I am ever so thankful for you all.

The other day

my daughter and I went to Santa Fe for the Law Enforcement Graduation.  I always enjoy time with my daughter and now that she is older it is more of us enjoying each other instead of guiding and leading.

We had a 200plus mile road trip each way so we talked a lot.

At the graduation it was crowded and as people were filing in and about, I was cut off by several people.  I did what I usually do and then went with Fourth to our seats.  When we sat, Fourth said something to me that made me feel so good.  She said Mom, you are so nice it's like you are Canadian

Honestly, that statement made me feel so good.  Then when we came home and she retold the events of the day, and shared that I apologized and then moved out of the way for the group, the others somewhat laughed.  I confess, I do not seek approval or attention from any.  I try very hard not to be anything other than me.  At the graduation, we did not have a family member graduating, so I moved aside because, perhaps those that cut me off did and they were hurrying to get where they needed to be to see their loves.

I am not on this planet to be the fastest, tallest, smartest, richest, or even the happiest.  I also know I am not on this planet to ruin another persons day.  I know I have and will in the future, but it is not a goal I set out to do. I would much rather allow another to get ahead of me and then I apologize.  This is sincerely who I am.  When I come home I am ever so fortunate to have this to look at:
with this man:
and we have the Fathers' Word:
So whatever happens away from my home is not troubling because I have safe arms to comfort me.

Please know I am not being insensitive by using a stereotype about Canadians.  I am going to share a few memes I found that made me smile and remind me of the stereotype and me:
I love how creative people are with memes. This is a cute one.

Oh and mean it.

This is nice when someone else is so kind! Makes a good
day even better!

I pick up items on the floor and put them back where
they belong. I can't help myself, but I am thankful that
we have the variety of stores we have and this simple
measure keeps things nice.  I also return my shopping cart-
it is something important in an area that has such winds,
I don't want anyone's vehicle to get dented by the shopping
cart I used.

We have been busy and therefore the blog has been neglected.
Bill went to Las Vegas for training and was able to visit with his parents.
His mom is still battling cancer.

His dad has health issues as well.
The trip was important because time is precious and we never know when we may not see one again that we love. Bill also met up with a few of his siblings.
This is his younger brother A and two of A's children.

Bill also spent time with an older sister.
Meanwhile I was at home with the critters.  I worked here and there and chopped kindling and cut my finger~so glad I wear gloves as the gloves took the slice and I ended up with a knick.
I saw both grandsons.  Saw Second, Third, and Fourth.  Met up with First to give things to Bill from First and his wife.

Fourth and I went to Santa Fe, NM about 230 miles to the graduation of Class 193 Law Enforcement. Cheered for the city officer and the county officers!! We went to lunch and had a fantastic day getaway!

Bill is home.
We are prepping for Thanksgiving and the following Sunday I am hosting a wine glass painting party~you know where you paint on wine glasses for all of the women that have my last name and their mothers.  Lots to do from now to then.
Have a wonderful day!

The end of the busyness of the farm!

It's that time

once again to take the annual goof troop photo.  Now that my goofs are older they ask why.  They wonder why I have such a need to have one photo a year.  I tear up a bit and often do not share why, aside from I am your momma.

This photo is the first group photo I have of the four:
The reason I want a photo every year is to remember the first group photo.  You see Fourth was born ten weeks early and was not expected to live.  We were constantly talked to about grief and how to prepare etc., for the loss.  This photo Bill took and it was one that I thought might be the only group photo we would ever be blessed with.  The N.I.C.U nurses allowed the boys to come in and hold their sister and therefore allowing us this memory.

Every annual photo since this one is a tremendous reminder of what we have and how very scary the fall of 1995 through 1996 was.  I am closing with this as I am a bit emotional still as to how very hard those early years were with our preemie.

Fossils, Falls, and Farrahs

With that title I will jump right in.

Fossils: We went to get wood yesterday~Bill, First, First's bride, Fourth and me.  Guess what?  First's bride went fossil hunting with me!Yay!  I love that she likes fossils and am excited to have another rockhound in the family.  Fourth found me a beautiful nautilus fossil~yay yay!

Falls: Well in all truth there was only one fall.  It was me.  I was walking by the truck and a stick caught the cuff of my pants and bam I was on the ground.  When Bill and Fourth came to me to help me up, I only could note that the clouds were moving sooooo fast.  I have a good bruise and well have not been too mobile today.

Farrahs:  With this I need a photo to explain.  We have four chickens that I call Farrahs as they have feathers around their necks that remind me of Farrah Faucett(Of course, I have brothers and one of them had the iconic poster of her in the boys bedroom).  Here is the best photo I have of one of the Farrahs:
See the chicken on the left, with the yellow/blond feathers?  Yep, that is one of the Farrahs.  Well yesterday one of them flew the coop and I was able to get it back in.  Today I went out and one was missing again.  Now I am pretty attached to all the critters on the farm and I called Bill quite sad, as I had walked about and could not find Farrah. Bill came home from work and he helped me and with the help of snake dog we flushed out Farrah from the underbrush. The chicken coop is complete once again.  Once winter is over and the hens begin laying in the nesting boxes the chickidoodles will all be free ranging but for now, I cannot do this as I need to establish where they will lay eggs.  Oh and for the record the Farrahs are Golden Duckwing Phoenix Bantams.

To end this post I think I will continue with my title and alliteration:

Home Made Dog Bed for $19.00!

Snake dog needed a new bed (translation-we sold the sectional couch and she no longer had a place to sleep).

Recently I shared an idea I had about making a dog bed to my sweetie. Last weekend  he bought the materials and built the bed in a few minutes.  I think with the hinges and eye hook we spent $19.00 as we bought marked down wood at Home Depot.
Oh and I wanted this dog bed to be out of the way during the day.  Here is the bed in the upright position.
Here is the bed when it is down. This was a simple, easy and perfect project for the dog that keeps me safe from rattlesnakes.
