"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation.

You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

Wednesday Window

Yep it's that time once again!
Here is my Henry, he is so sweet.  I don't understand
why I like geese, but I do.  Crazy, silly critters
that make me smile.

Autumn is beginning to truly greet us.
Quite chilly here in the mornings.
Of course by afternoon it's sweltering!
I loooooooove New Mexico!

Late blooming pomegranates. I don't think they will
ripen before the first frost.  The puppy loves them
as is, so I guess all is well.

Something New
On to the newest category I have added to the farm blog: I am sharing something new that I have learned.  The booklet below was one of the books I used as I homeschooled the children.  It was printed in 1950 and was from a series of books titled Real People and then the name of the person.

I quickly read the book again, then I spent some time on line reading about Zebulon Pike and smiled thinking, when I first read the booklet, we did not live in New Mexico.
Anyhow something I discovered that is fascinating is that although Zeb Pike did not have any male heirs about 20% of all people with the last name Pike can trace their line to the same male like as Zebulon Pike (Source Wikipedia).
If you want to learn something about Zebulon Pike below are some links:
Here is a website that has some of the works by Pike.
Read about him here on the History website.

If you aren't interested in Zebulon Pike, take some time to learn something new today.  It isn't for anyone else but you and your brain is a valuable thing and you should challenge it and use it every day...all day long!

Michelle-yes they are incredible alarms and our geese are housed in an area that allows for this to be!
