"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation.

You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

The world

in a suitcase.  Bill returned from a week long training up north on Friday and as I emptied the suitcase I smiled and had some great thoughts.

You see this suitcase (the makeup bag, carry on, and dress suit carrier are inside), has been with Bill and I from the beginning.  They aren't the best of suitcases to look at, and they have frays and stains and such, but they share our story.  We didn't have much money then much like today, and this set of luggage was the best we could afford.

This set of luggage has traveled around the world and from state to state.  When we had wee ones the large one was filled with diapers and the children's clothing.  We have used separate pieces when we travel for less time.  A few of the kids have used a piece or two on their own travels.

I have seen babies curl up in them, toddlers toss out clothing from them, and teens hide in them to scare a sibling.  I have seen kitties sleep on them in the storage room.  I traveled with these suitcases in 2011 during that terrible cold blizzard and spent several weeks with my mother~until she decided she could fight no more and died.  I then took these cases two days later with me as I traveled further east and met my son who just returned from Afghanistan.

They are beat up and yet in my eyes are so beautiful. They have carted around everything that I needed for every duty station, every home, every trip that the farm family has made, and they will be with us until we are no more as they have gone the world and back with us.  I must be crazy because to me I see each of the memories I have had with these bags~with a simple closing of my eyes.

You are not crazy. Objects can bring back memories of the past and I am glad most of them were good memories for you.

DD- Well some not so good, others good but all have defined me to the woman I have become.
