"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation.

You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

Summer Fun

This has been my first year as the parent of all adults and life has changed a bit!  With summer officially several days away, I have been plotting and planning some activities for life as it is now.  As life sometimes takes over, Bill and I may or may not accomplish this summer filled list, but it is worth setting the bar to reach for.
  1. Creating a backyard oasis.  We planted grass last year and have been slowly extending the edges of the yard.  With the yard cooling off the west side of the house, I think it is time to up the anti and put in a swimming pool.  Of course with the farm budget the way it is, the pool will be something that had another purpose before becoming our pool.  Oh and pool is an overstatement!  I think I am going to create a place for me to sit and submerge but not too much else, thanks to a few unused water troughs(tanks).  Yep~I lack shame I suppose, as this is my #1 for summer plans!
  2. Go see Gila Cliff Dwellings with an incredibly handsome man.
  3. Head to mountains for an archaeological excursion.  Bill you know what this means: Picnic in the mountains, nap on the hillside and Jen collects fossils.
  4.  Celebrate Independence Day with annual family tradition. First go to the parade, then have a picnic, come home, nap, then head to town to watch fireworks.  The finale is to come home and watch the movie Independence Day.  It has been a tradition since 1997 for the family.
  5. Go to Caliche's for yummy summer treats.
  6. Take a late afternoon drive to McGinn's and gobble up the varieties of pistachio flavors offered.
  7. Sled in the summertime at the White Sands National Monument.
  8. Visit White Sands Missile Range.
  9. Go to the Hatch Chili Festival.
  10. Go to High Rolls Cherry Festival.
  11. Go to the Otero County Fair.
  12. Celebrate wedding reception of sweet, adorable, young couple. :)
  13. Celebrate 26th anniversary with ever so amazing husband.
  14. Watch the White Sands Balloon Festival-last day of summer!
Summertime fun is not just for the kiddos anymore!!
