We really had no plans for our honeymoon and just loaded up in the truck and headed southwest. When we arrived in San Diego, I told Bill that my Uncle Steve lived here and immediately Bill said we should call him.
I ended up calling Uncle Steve and we went over and spent two days with my uncle and his family. I must side note a bit and share that my dad was killed in Vietnam 2 months before I was born and knew almost nothing of my dad's family. I believe my mom grieved and somewhat died that day in 1967. Anyway, my Uncle Steve looked so much like my dad that I was overjoyed to see him.
My Uncle Steve was equally happy but he also was on fire for the Lord. I was not raised with any religious background. I knew a tiny bit about the Bible and God-only from television! Uncle Steve used his time to be a witness for Christ. He was very loving, but also used the time well. He had us watch a video that he produced-as he was in the 'biz' as they say. But the film was about a subject I knew nothing of, and honestly only watched it because he was this connection to my dad.
Bill was just as kind as I was-but neither of us were interested.
Uncle Steve planted the seed.
Eleven months later Uncle Steve died of a heart attack. I had given birth to my oldest a week before but decided we should go to the funeral. We drove to California(from southern NV) because-well I was not sure then.
Uncle Steve died-never knowing how his seed grew. I am certain he felt like the parable of the sower, and considered that the seed he planted with us fell to the wayside.
It did not. I see the parable of the sower far differently because of Uncle Steve. It is not up to us to decide what the person's life is about-as to whether the seed will take root. We are not to judge whether it will grow. We are to cast the seeds...just as Uncle Steve did.
Here is the Parable of the Sower:
Mark 4: 1-9
And he began again to teach by the sea side: and there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he entered into a ship, and sat in the sea; and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land.2And he taught them many things by parables, and said unto them in his doctrine,
3Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow:
4And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.
5And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth:
6But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.
7And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.
8And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred.
9And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
he- is Jesus Christ

And since you are only 28 years old, that means you were 4 years old! And driving a car! A prodigy.
But seriously, Happy anniversary!
This is a great story .. and I think its awesome that you give Bibles away! I guess that seed fell on fertile soil.
i love the parable of the sower.l and i am so glad that you got to meet your Uncle Steve - firstly, because he was a connection to your Father (both of them!). and secondly, because he planted the seed in both of you. and His work was done.
it only takes one little seed....
your friend,
kymber
What a wonderful testimony. How did the Lord cause the seed to grow in your lives? May we all be "Uncle Steve" to those we contact!.........Denise
LOL Russell- since I am the same height as then, I will smile! If only we had a phone book like from a big city then all would be well and I could see over the dash!!
Mrs. Mac-yes indeed.
Kymber-amen!! I too love the sower and know you know why!!xoxox
Denise-I will share someday the rest of the story!! And yes, may we all be Uncle Steve's!
Are we not thankful for the "Uncle Steve's" purpose by our Heavenly Father in our lives! I am so sorry that you never had the opportunity to know your real dad,but even still our Heavenly Father looked down and said, my daughter needs a "dad" figure and gave you one that loved him with such zeal! I was blessed this morning with the reading of your post...Happy Tuesday
Yes, the results are God's work. Ours is to be obedient to what He tells us to do.
It is amazing how small the seed is that the Lord plants in our hearts, I am always incredulous to see my garden plants come up from those tiny life holders!
It is also amazing how the amount of time we get to spend with a few people in our lives leaves such a BIG imprint. I have a few impressions like that. Praise God!
Susan-exactly. I am so thankful that Uncle Steve was so sure in his faith, even when I had no idea what his meant.
Muse-this is definitely a Praise God moment, because the time spent with Uncle Steve was but a blink in my life...yet, here I am 23plus years sharing his use of time with me. I would love to hear of your moments!
Oh Rhonda- your comment is precious and stirs my heart! I love that you shared this comment as it is beautiful!
